Explain the phenomenon of Solstice and Equinox with the help of a diagram.

Dear Student

Please find below the solution to your query

1.Solstice and Equinox are related to the direction of sun rays. The equinox occurs when sun rays is directly over the equator therefore day and night are of equal length. It occurs twice a year, around 21 March and 23 September.

2.Solstice occurs when Sun rays is directly over Tropic of Cancer or at Tropic of Capricorn. It happens twice a year when sun rays fall directly at Tropic of Capricorn, it is summer solicit(December 22) there with longer days and shorter nights. At this time in the northern hemisphere, all the conditions are reversed and it is winter solicit there. Similarly, on June 21, the Northern Hemisphere is tilted towards the sun. The rays of the sun fall directly on the Tropic of Cancer. Hence it is summer solicit here and conditions are reversed in southern hemisphere.
