Explain the reason for e and d

Dear student

The bond length of N=O is higher than C=O. It can be explain with the help of molecular orbital theory. We can calculate the bond order of the molecule. Bond order is inversely proportional to the bond length. Molecule with higher bond length will have low bond order. According to MO theory the electronic configuration of molecule having up to 14 electrons is: ( * represent the antibonding molecular orbital.)
σ1s, σ *1s, σ 2s, σ *2s, π 2px = π 2py, σ 2pz ,π *2px= π *2py, σ*2pz
Electronic configuration of molecule, having more than 14 electrons is:
σ1s, σ *1s, σ 2s, σ *2s, σ 2pz, π 2px = π 2py, π *2px= π *2py, σ *2pz

Bond order = (No. of electrons in BMO - No. of electrons in ABMO)/ 2

Bond order of NO is 2.5 and bond order of CO is 3, so bond length of NO is higher than CO.

Bond order of C=C is 2 and bond order of C=N is 2.5, so bond length of C=C is higher than C=N.
