The Revolution marks a watershed in the history of France. The ideas of equality, liberty and fraternity worked as the guiding factors and motivated changes in both political and social field. The following are some of the new political changes that introduced after the revolution:

• Introduction of democratic principles in the governance of the country.
• Monarchy was brought to end in France with the execution of Louis VI and Marie Antoinette
• The end of the rule of the church and the end of all feudal contracts was a major achievement of the revolution.
• The set up of the Directory helped to avoid the concentration of powers in the hands of a single authority.

The revolution also had a deep impact on the lives of the people of France.

• The system of the three estates was totally removed.
• With the abolition of feudalism from France, the practices of delivering titles and imposition of taxes on the people of the lower estates were completely removed.
• Women too gained much by the revolution. The nation was declared to be comprising of both man and woman so the natural rights of birth should be preserved.
• Abolition of slavery in 1848 was another expression of an equalitarian society.
• The removal of censorship also gave the mass the liberty to express their opinions.
