Explain the significance of urbanism and movement of goods in Mesopotamia( 4 pts)

Few points on the ​significance of urbanism in Mesopotamia:

a. Urban centres were hubs of a variety of economic activities in Mesopotamia. Such activities included trade, manufacture and services.
b. Urban centres enabled division of labour and specialization. This increased productivity of the people. 
c. Due to the sophisticated nature of economic activity in urban areas, the social organization also had to improve. Cities had to have adequate facilities to store various commodities like fuel, food etc.

Significance of movement of goods in Mesopotamia.

a. Mesopotamia was rich in food resources but not in mineral resources.
b. So Mesopotamia had to import products like 
wood, copper, tin, silver, gold, shell and various stones from Turkey and Iran.
c. The trade in these activities also required improved means of transport. Most of such goods were transported through rivers like the Tigris and the Euphrates.
