Explain the statement 'i was very happy to go behind the strange aeroplane like an obedient child'?

when he was stuck in the storm,and saw noone but the black aeroplane who told the pilot to follow him,,he tought of the black aeroplane as friend who would guide him out of the storm...as he had fear of losing his life...he followed the strange aeroplane like an obidient child.
