Explain the structure and function of biogas plant

The biogas plant has a dome like structure built with bricks. A slurry of cow dung, vegetable wastes, crop residues etc is mixed with water and made into a slurry, and fed into the digester. The digester is a sealed chamber in which there is no oxygen. Anaerobic microorganisms that do not require oxygen decompose or break down complex compounds of the cow dung to generate gases like methane, CO2, hydrogen and hydrogen sulphide. The bio gas gets stored in the gas tank above the digester from which they are drawn through pipes for use. The slurry left behind is removed periodically and can be used as excellent manure rich in nitrogen and phosphorus.

Biogas is also called  'Gobar gas'. It is made by anaerobic decomposition of cowdung, kitchen waste, farm waste...etc.  it consists of a cylindrical tank of atleast 10-15 feet .the cowdung is the major reactant in production of gobar gas. Its major product is CH4(ethane).It also contains CO2 ,H2S  & traces of  H2O .

Biogas typically refers to a mixture of different gases produced by the breakdown of organic matter in the absence of oxygen. Biogas can be produced from raw materials such as agricultural waste, manure, municipal waste, plant material, sewage, green waste or food waste. Biogas is a renewable energy source and in many cases exerts a very small carbon footprint. Biogas can be produced by anaerobic digestion with anaerobic organisms, which digest material inside a closed system, or fermentation of biodegradable materials.[

Function principle of a biogas plant - from the meadow in the local heater. In airtight fermentation vessels - the so-called digesters - a fermentation process is stimulated and produces biogas using bacteria. ... Main products of anaerobic degradation are energy-rich methane and carbon dioxide.

It is done like structure which consist mixing tank for making slurry of respective materials, then it passes to digester, where it is decomposed in absence oxygen within a week and the gas produced is extracted from a pipe like structure called gas outlet and that gas is used for many domestic purposes like for cooking etc

it is a process in which in a tank the gobar is stored in a in a tank. After some time the organism that breakdown the substence in the absence of oxygen . then inside the tank methane gas will produce. that methane gas will take through the pipe to the gas.

The function of any biogas plant is to provide the Anaerobic microbes the perfect conditions and substrates in order for them to survive and multiply and thereby produce the methane and other gases mixture that we call biogas. So, what the biogas plant does is to optimise these conditions for biogas production

The biogas plant consists of a concrete tank in which bio-waste are collected and a slurry of dung is fed.
A floating cover is placed over the slurry, that keeps on rising as the level of gas increases.
The plant has an outlet, from where the spent slurry is removed through.
The biogas thus used is used for lightening of fire.
