Explain the structure of PCl5 a) at high temperature b) at low temperature

At low temperature, in the solid state, PCl5 exists as an ionic compound, in the form of two ions [PCl4]+[PCl6]- and according to VSEPR theory, the structure of [PCl4]+ ion is tetrahedral and [PCl6]- ion is octahedral.




At high temperature ,In vapour phase the geometry of PCl5 is Trigonal bipyramidal ( tbp).  The structure of PCl5  is shown below:
