explain the structure of V.S of kidney with the help of labelled diagram

Dear Student

Answer: The kidney is the main organ of the excretory system. Each kidney has millions of tubular structured called nephrons which are the main functional and structural unit of the kidney.

Nephrons has two structures: Bowman's capsule and renal tubules.

Below is the diagram of VS of the kidney.

Structure of the Kidney can be explained as:

  1. Kidneys have an outer tough layer called a capsule.
  2. Internally Kidney is divided into 2 parts: Outer cortex and Inner medulla.
  3. The kidney has a notch like structure at the inner concave surface towards the center called hilum from where ureter, blood vessels, and nerves enter.
  4. There are broad funnel-shaped structures present inner to the hilum called Renal pelvis and has projections called calyces.
  5. Cortex continues in between in renal pyramids present in the medulla as Renal columns called Columns of Bertini.
  6. Renal artery supplies blood for filtration, its branch called afferent arteriole forms tufts of capillaries called Glomerulus.
  7. Glomerulus along with Bowman's capsule is called Malpighian tubules.
