varna system is a system based on the type of occupation.
types of occupation are -
Brahmins - to look after all religious matters.
Kshatriyas - to rule and protect the kingdom,
Vaishyas - they were tradors,cultivators , artisans
Shudras - to do all menial tasks and serve the other three varnas

It was a system on the basis of which the priests (Brahmins) grouped people in the society.
· There were four varnas- Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas and Shudras.
· The first varna was Brahmins- this group were allowed to learn Vedas and perform sacrifices and receive gifts.
· The second varna included Kshatriyas- they fought battles and protected the kingdoms.
· The third varna was Vaishyas- it included farmers, herders and traders.
· The last varna was of the Shudras- Shudras were the lowest varna and had to serve the other three groups.
