Mahatma Gandhi was never content with only the political and economic solutions, he also wanted to work upon the cultural and social backwardness in the Champaran villages. The health conditions there were miserable. To improve the conditions in Champaran, he got a doctor to volunteer his services for six months. All the sick people were given medications like castor oil, quinine, and sulfur ointment.
