Explain types of DNA super coiling.

Dear student,
Please find below the answer:

Supercoiled DNA is of two types- a plectoneme and a toroid, or a combination of both.

  • The Toroid is the supercoiled DNA molecule produced as a one-start left-handed helix.
  • A two-start right-handed helix with terminal loops is called plectoneme. It is typically more common in nature, and this is observed in bacterial plasmids.

Hope this clears your doubt.
Regards.
