Explain unjust and exploitative administration

Dear Student,

This passage refers to the colonial administration of the American colonies before independence by Britain. It states that although each colony had an elected assembly, real power was exercised by a governor who was appointed by the British government. The governor acted in the interest of Britain rather than the colonies. Economic and taxation policies were designed to benefit Britain and not the colonies. For example, there were high taxes on items of consumption like tea. Such policies led to resentment among the inhabitants of the colonies leading to the American revolution.

Regards.
