Explain why diamond is considered as an element , not as compound?

Dear student,
Diamond is one of allotrope of carbon. An allotrope can be defined as different physical forms of an elements. Like diamond, other allotropes of carbon are graphite, charcoal etc.

So diamond is considered as carbon element only as it is composed of only carbon atoms.
Diamond cannot considered as a compound because compounds are composed of more than one
different elements such as H2O is a compound because it is composed of two H and one O atom whereas elements have same type of atoms.

Because Diamond in made up of 99% Carbon ,thus it is also called as allotrope of carbon.

Diamond is made up of elements but it itself is not an element and not compound either because compound is formed by one or more than one element but here it is made up of carbon atoms only

Diamond is an allotrope of carbon, it is entirely made up of carbon. So, it is an element.
