Environment Protection Act is to provide for protection and improvement of Environment and for matters connected with it. It involves planning and execution of a nation wide programme for prevention, control and abatement of environmental pollution.It lays down standards for improvement in environmental quality and uts various aspects.  It has several other features which dictates the setting up of industries, infrastructural projects, ways of handling and disposing hazardous wastes.
