16. Find magnetic moment in following cases

(Each segment is of length /)

Dear student,

1)Magnitude of Magnetic moment = iA = πr2i
The direction is perpendicular to plane of the loop. 

2) Magnetic moment due to both semicircles have same magnitude = πr2i/2
These are perpendicular to each other so the resultant magnetic moment is = ((πr2i/2)2 +  (πr2i/2)2 )1/2 = πr2i/2 x √2 = πr2i/√2
The direction is 450 in the x y plane.

3) For this case there are 3 surfaces. Consider surface in xy plane. The magnitude of magnetic moment is = i x l2
The direction will be along z axis.
So for all three surfaces we will get 3 magnetic moments along x, y and z axis respectively.
Thus Magnetic moment = il2(i + j + k)
