Find the discriminant of the quadratic equation 3x2 – 5x – 11 = 0

Discriminant = b^2 - 4ac where a , b , c are compared values of the given equation with those of standard form of quadratic equation . So b = -5 , c= -11 and a = 3 put in values we get
 Discriminant = -5^2 - 4(3)(-11) = 25+132 = 157

3x²-5x-11=0
Comparing with ax²-bx-c=0
a=3
b= -5
c= -11
Since,
d= b²-4ac
=> (-5)² - 4(3)(-11)
=> 25 +132
Therefore, d= 157

Discriminant = b2 - 4ac
                      = 25 - 4 ( 3 ) ( 11 )
                     = 25 - 132
                     = - 107
