Find the fraction which becomes to 2/3 when the numerator is increased by 2 and equal to 4/7 when the denominator is increased by 4.

Let the fraction be

Thus, the required fraction is

  • 10

(x+2) / y = 2/3  > 3x - 2y + 6 = 0 > 6x - 4y + 12

 x / (y+4) = 4/7 > 7x - 4y - 16

subtracting the eqs.

6x - 4y + 12 - 7x + 4y + 16 = 0

-x = -28  > x=28

  3x - 2y = -6   > 3(28)  + 6 = 2y   >  90 / 2 = y  > y = 45
