find the number of distinct rational numbers of the form p/q . where p,q belongs to [1,2,3,4,5,6]

Dear Student,

The various rational numbers possible are

11,12,13,14,15,16  ; 21,22,23,24,25,26  ; 31,32,33,34,35,36 41,42,43,44,45,46  ; 51,52,53,54,55,56  ; 61,62,63,64,65,66 After simplyfing, we have11,12,13,14,15,16  ; 21,11,23,12,25,13  ; 31,32,11,34,35,12 41,21,43,11,45,23  ; 51,52,53,54,11,56  ; 61,31,21,32,65,11
Thus, For Number of Unique Rational number,T = Total numbers possible - (number of repeated rational numbers)

T= 36 - (Number of Rational numbers in Bold)  = 36-13 = 23

Thus, From the given set "23" unique rational numbers can be made.
