( ( x - 2 ) + ( y - 3 ) i ) / ( i +1) = 1 - 3 i

(x-2+yi-3i)=(1-3i)(i+1)

x+yi-3i-2=i+1-3i2-3i             (i2=-1)  

x+yi=i+1+2+3

x+yi=6+i

by euating

  x=6&y=1

Two complex numbers and are equal if and i.e., 

Re(z1) = Re(z2) and Im(z1) = Im(z2) 

x + iy = 6 + i

⇒ x = 6 and y = 1
