Fire and ice rhyme scheme

Dear Student, 

The poem has a tight-knit rhyming scheme. All end words of the poem are rhymed. The rhyming scheme of the poem may be written as :  aba abc bcb

aba - fire, ice, desire
abc- fire, twice, hate
bcb- ice, great, suffice

a- fire, desire, fire
b- ice, twice, ice, suffice
c- hate, great

The initial focus on fire gradually gives way to ice. By the end, ice has taken over.
