The Government of India has introduced various technological and institutional reforms for increasing food production and reducing dependence on foreign markets. Some of these reforms are given below:
1. Introduction of Green Revolution and White Revolution: The introduction of green revolution helped in increasing the production of foodgrains and crops through the use of high yielding variety seeds, use of latest technology, etc. Moreover the white revolution increased the efficiency of dairy production in our country.
2. Abolition of zamindari system:The farmers suffered a lot during the pre-Colonial and Colonial era under the atrocities of the zamindars who would acquire their lands and enforce heavy taxes. But after independence this system was abolished by the Government of India.
3. Consolidation of holdings: Consolidation of land holdings is one of the most important institutional reforms introduced by the Government of India for the welfare of the farmers.
4. Introduction of land reforms: The Government of India has introduced various land reforms for the welfare and development of the farmers so that they can increase their agricultural productivity as well.
5. Introduction of crop insurance scheme: The Government of India introduced the crop insurance scheme in the year to provide protection to the farmers' crops against adverse weather conditions and to increase their longevity.
6. Establishment of banks and cooperative societies for providing loan facilities to the farmers: The Government of India has established various Grameen banks in villages and other cooperative societies for providing loan facilities to the farmers so that they can efficiently get engaged in agricultural production without any problem.
