Formation of COPRA

Dear student, Consumer Protection Act, 1986 also known as COPRA act, was passed by the Parliament Of India in October 1986 but came into force in December 24 1986.It safeguards the interest of the consumers and provide protection to the consumers in India. It provides for the formation of consumer councils for the settlement of consumers disputes. The act extends to whole of India except Jammu and Kashmir.The act covers all goods and services. State forums , District forums and national forums are established by respective governments. There are some rights of consumer like Right to safety, Right to be informed, Right to choose, Right to basic needs, Right to be heard and Right to consumer education. Regards
