गरबा नृत्य गुजरात राज्‍य का एक लोकप्रिय लोक नृत्य है, जो गीत, नृत्‍य और नाटक की समृद्ध परम्‍परा का निरुपण करता है। यह मिट्टी के मटके, जिसे गरबो कहते हैं, को पानी से भर कर इसके चारों ओर महिलाओं द्वारा किया जाने वाला नृत्‍य है। मटके के अंदर एक सुपारी और चाँदी का सिक्‍का रखा जाता है, जिसे कुम्‍भ कहते हैं। इसके ऊपर एक नारियल रखा जाता है। नृत्‍य करने वाली महिलाएँ मटके के चारों ओर गोल घूमती हैं और एक गायक तथा ढोलक या तबला बजाने वाला व्‍यक्ति संगीत देता है। प्रतिभागी एक निश्चित ताल पर तालियाँ बजाते हैं। गरबा नृत्‍य गुजराती महिलाओं द्वारा किया जाने वाला गोलाकार नृत्‍य रूप है और यह नृत्‍य नवरात्रि, शरद पूर्णिमा, बसंत पंचमी, होली और अन्‍य उत्‍सवों में किया जाता है। 'गरबा' का जन्‍म एक दीपक के अनुसार किया गया है, जिसे गर्भदीप कहते हैं, जिसका अर्थ है मटके के अंदर रखा हुआ दीपक।

Garba dance is a popular folk dance of the state of Gujarat, which represents a rich tradition of song, dance and drama. It is a dance performed by women around it by filling an earthen pot called garbo. A betel nut and silver coin is kept inside the pot, which is called Kumbh. A coconut is placed on top of it. The dancing women revolve round the pot and a singer and a dholak or tabla perform music. The participants clap on a certain rhythm. Garba dance is a circular dance form performed by Gujarati women and is performed in Navaratri, Sharad Purnima, Basant Panchami, Holi and other festivals. 'Garba' is born according to a lamp called Garbhadeep, which means a lamp placed inside a pot.
