Give 5 day to day real life example of displacement reaction

Solution:

A displacement reaction may be defined as a reaction in which highly active species displace less active species from their compounds. It is of two types,

Single displacement: This is when one element trades places with another element in a compound. These reactions come in the general form of:

A + BC ---> AC + B

One example of a single displacement reaction is when magnesium replaces hydrogen in water to make magnesium hydroxide and hydrogen gas:

Mg + 2 H2O ---> Mg(OH)2+ H2

Double displacement: This is when the anions and cations of two different molecules switch places, forming two entirely different compounds. These reactions are in the general form:

AB + CD ---> AD + CB

One example of a double displacement reaction is the reaction of lead (II) nitrate with potassium iodide to form lead (II) iodide and potassium nitrate:

Pb(NO3)2+ 2 KI ---> PbI2+ 2 KNO3

Daily life examples are as follows-

1) H2O+ NaCl → NaOH + HCl
Water in your body plus the salt in your foods

2) Marble statues (CaCO3) attacked by acid rain (containing HNO3).
CaCO3 + 2HNO3→ Ca(NO3)2 + H2O + CO2

3) An antacid (calcium hydroxide) neutralizes stomach acid (hydrochloric acid).
Ca(OH)2 + 2 HCl → CaCl2 + 2 H2O

4) Mixture of Al and Fe2O3 is used in the joining of railway tracks.
2Al + Fe2O3 → Al2O3 + 2Fe

5) A mixture of Al and CuO is used for creating electric joints between Cu and steel.
2Al + 3CuO → 3Cu + Al2O3
