Give a short summary of 'Night Voices' poem.

Dear student
This a chilling poem by Arthur Conan Doyle.
In the first two stanzas, the child seems to have a conversation with his/her father( let's go with his) . The child asks his father, "Who is it who whispers in the woods?"
The father, like any other parent, assures him by saying that the noises are made by the breeze rustling in the trees. But the child is still unsure.
In the second stanza, whispering is replaced by murmuring in the woods.
In the third stanza, things began to look peculiar. The child pleads with his father to, " Let us go/ for the light is burning low." This raises questions in our mind like who is 'us'?  Let us go from where?
In the fourth and final stanza, our whole perception of the poem changes drastically. Now the actions of the father have replaced the noises as the point of terror. He is the active figure of the horror story. This makes us afraid of the child's future.
Hope it helps
