The years of the Great Depression led to a severe economic crisis in Germany. Between 1929 and 1932, industrial production dropped by 60%. This lead to loss of jobs and widespread unemployment. Income levels and wages dropped drastically. The German currency depreciated due to which the savings of the middle class were wiped out. With reduced purchasing power, the business of retailers and traders also suffered greatly.
