Give an easy trick to identify the subject and the predicate of a sentence easily and verify the same on these sentences -
1) A barking sound the shepherd hears.
2) On the top of the gill lives a hermit.
3)

A sentence is made up of two parts: subject and predicate.
The words that tell who or what the sentence is about are its subject.
The complete predicate includes the verb and all the words that tell what happened in the sentence.
For example:
Rajesh drew a picture in his notebook.
Subject: Rajesh
Predicate: drew a picture in his notebook

TIP: Ask the question 'who' or what' for every sentence; whatever answers these questions, is the subject.
1) A barking sound the shepherd hears.- Underlined part is the subject, rest is the predicate.
2) On the top of the gill lives a hermit. - Underlined part is the subject, rest is the predicate.
