Restriction endonucleases are of 3 types i.e type 1,2 and 3 and among which only type 2 is active one. Exqmples are : Eco R I, Eco R II, Bam H I, Hae III, Hin d III, Alu I etc

(a) Restriction endonucleases are called molecular scissors as they cut the DNA segments at particular locations. Example: EcoRI. (b) Restriction enzymes cut the DNA strands some distance away from the centre of the palindromic sites, but between the same two bases on the opposite strands.
