A nation's economy is divided into various economic sectors to define the proportion of population engaged in various activities.
The primary sector: extracts or harvests products from earth such as basic raw material and food items.Agriculture,forestry,grazing etc are included in the primary sector.
The secondary sector: produces finished goods from raw materials, extracted by primary activities.All manufacturing, production and construction industries are included under the secondary sector.
The tertiary sector: includes all economic activities which lead to sale of goods produced by primary and secondary sector.It is also known as the service sector. Restaurants ,tourism, insurance and banking are a part of this sector.
Quaternary sector: This secor includes intellectual activities associated with technological development like Information technology, libraries etc.
Quinary sector: involves top executives or officials in fields such as government agencies,science, universities, healtg care, culture, media.
The main source of income in Bhutan is from Agriculture, tourism, cottage industries, hydroelectricity, and small scale industries such as cement plants, calcium and carbide ,steel and ferro silicon and wood based industries.
Hence, GDP by sector Agriculture:16.2%, Industry:41.8%,
services:42%
