Give one example of radical of - 3 ?

Dear student,

An atom, molecule, or an ion that has unpaired valence electrons, hence it has hanging covalent bonds (bond not bonded to any substance) are called radical or free radical.

These hanging covalent bonds in the free radical make them highly reactive to other substances and even to themselves. Hence these free radicals usually dimerize or polymerize themselves. E.g. the hydroxyl radical (HO•) which has one hanging bond from oxygen, the carbene molecule (CH2), which has two dangling bonds.
