Mr Gould is a minor character in 'The Invisible Man'. he was a probationary assistant in the national School. He had an active imagination and was convinced that the stranger was an Anarchist in disguise who was preparing explosives. He decided to do detective work to confirm his suspicion. The author has added humour by adding that his detective work consisted only in staring hard at the stranger and asking people leading questions about him.
