There was an irony in Natalya accepting Lomov's proposal because they couldn't agree with each other even in the smallest matter. They first argued about the piece of land and then about the dog. Such silly matters caused disputes among them. Therefore, it shows that she was not straight-forward in her approach. When Natalya hears about the reason for Lomov's coming, she is desperate to bring him back. She demands her father to call him back. She seems to be very happy and eager to learn that he would propose her. Though she was quarrelsome, she seems to yearn for true love.
