Give the structure and function of bacteria flagellum
Dear student
Bacterial flagellum is a hair like appendage that arises from cell wall. It is composed of Flagellin protein.
Structure:-
it is composed of three parts:-
1. Basal body - there are 4 rings namely L, P, M and C surrounding the central rod which is anchored to cell wall and cytoplasmic membrane.
2. Hook - it supports filament and and connect it to motor proteins.
3. Filament - thin and flat hair like structure which arises from hook.
Function :-
its main function is for motility that is help in moving the bacterial cell and this movement is caused by rotating the flagella either clockwise or anti clockwise.
