A few breeds of buffaloes are as follows-
1. Murrah - jet black, also known as Kali. It is the most efficient milk and butter fat producer buffalo breed in India. Common in Haryana.
2. Jaffrabadi - heaviest Indian breed of buffalo. Common in Gujarat, used mainly for ploughing as they are very heavy.
3. Surti - Common in Gujarat, produces high fat containing milk.
Some other breeds are - Toda , Mehsana, Nagpuri , Bhadawari and Niliravi.
