Grey areas means areas where common rules of Passive voice can not apply. So I want grey areas in passive voice.

- 'Grey area' is a situation or activity where a (particular) set of rules does not apply.
- When you change active to passive voice, please remember that only those active sentences can be transformed to passive which have an object that receives the action.
- For example: Ram kicked the ball. (object)
The ball was kicked by Ram.
- We know that in active voce, the doer (subject) is important whereas in passive voice the action is important.
- Now let us look at some special cases of conversion to passive:
For+retained object: the direct object is made the subject and ‘for’ is used with the retained object.
For example: They bought him a new e-book.(Active)
A new e-book was bought for him.(passive)
To+ retained object: When the indirect object receives something, to is used with the retained object.
For example: He gave her a cheque.(active)
A cheque was given to her.(Passive)
Passive with object complement: the object in the active voice is made the subject in the passive whenever a verb is followed by an object complement.
For example:We called the chimpanzee Muko.(Active)
               The chimpanzee was called Muko.(Passive)
Infinitive: If there is an infinitive without ‘to’ in the Active, it becomes a full infinitive(With ‘to’) in the Passive. For example:The karate coach made him practise his kicks.(Active)
He was made to practise his kicks.(Passive)
