H2O is a liquid where as H2S is a gas. Why?

Dear Student, H2O molecules have intermolecular hydrogen bonding prevailing between the hydrogen and oxygen atoms. This increases the intermolecular attraction between water molecules which is not found in H2S as sulfur atom cannot participate in hydrogen bonding. Due to this, the boiling point of H2O is higher than that of H2S and so, H2O is liquid but H2S is gas at room temperature. Regards

water is liquid but hydrogen sulphide is gas because water has strong intermolecular hydrogen bonding in it but hydrogen sulphide has no hydrogen bonding and hence it is gas.
