Half the perimeter of a rectangular garden, whose length is 4m more than its width,is 36m. Find the dimensions of the garden.

  • 2

Let the width of the garden be x metres.

Then length = (x+4) metres

Half the Perimeter = 36m (given)

So, perimeter of the garden = (2*36) = 72metres

A/q

2(l+b) = 72

2(x+4+x) = 72

2x+4 = 72/2 = 36

2x = 36-4

2x = 32

x = 32/2 = 16 metres

Thus, the width of the garden is 16 metres and the length is (16+4) = 20 metres.

perimeter of a Rectangle= 2(l+b)

half of the perimeter of Rectangle = (l+b)

Given: (l+b) = 36 ...........(1)

 and  l = b+4 ........(2)

substitute the value of l from (2) in euation (1), we get...

(b+4)+b = 36

2b+4 = 36

2b = 36-4

2b = 32

b = 16m  Ans.

Put this value  of b in equation (1)

l+16 = 36

l = 36-16

l = 20m..... Ans.
