yes because meiosis refers to the reductional division i.e the chromosome no. are 2n/2 hence for gamete formation we obtain a n ploidy gamete but if only n no. of chromosome are present and that are also reduced to half i.e n/2 we obtain a cell with a half chromosome which is impossible in any organism
