harmful effects of iron

Dear student,

The harmful effects of iron are-
1) At high doses, iron is toxic.
2) It can cause side effects such as stomach upset and pain constipation or diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting.
3) Taking iron supplements with food seems to reduce some of these side effects. However, food can also reduce how well the body can absorb iron.
4) Iron should be taken on an empty stomach if possible.
5) Excessive iron can be damaging to the gastrointestinal system.
6) Iron can accumulate in the organs, and cause fatal damage to the liver or brain.
7) High doses of iron can also decrease zinc absorption.
8) The high iron level can cause fatigue and lethargy, darkening of the skin, weight loss, and weakness.
9) The most common iron overload disorder is hereditary hemochromatosis.

Regards!
