the answer is- a) Dipicolinic acid and Ca2+ in cortex.

The dipicolinic acid is a heat resistant chemical and hence, makes help in the survival of the endospore during harsh environmental conditions.

The highly resistant nature of endospore is due to the presence of all of these :-

(i) Thick and impermeable spore coat
(ii) Low water content
(iii) Low metabolic activity
(iv) Calcium Dipicolinic acid (Ca-DPA complex)

Under favourable conditions, endospore absorbs water, becomes metabolically active, ruptures thick spore coat and the bacterium surrounded by thin cell wall emerges out.
