Dear student,
Seeds are exposed to  chemical mutagens or radiation to generate desired mutation which is selected and crossed with other varieties. This process of developing mutant plants are called mutational breeding.
Sonalika and kalyan sona are the semi-dwarf varieties of wheat  which is  high yielding, disease resistant, high responsive to inputs, non lodging types. These are the qualities which made it popular.
