Side bands are produced by modulation. The signal produced after modulation consist of frequencies slightly higher and slightly lower than frequency of carrier wave ( fc+fm and fc+fm) called sidebands.

Sidebands ptoduced are the result of superposition of carrier wave and modulating wave, operated in square law device and bandpass filter..
