How are the branches of old trees different from the stems of a new plant?

Dear student
Please find your answer below to the asked query :

With respect to tissue, there is a difference in the outer layer of branches of old tree and outer layer of stem of young plant.

The old tree has layer of dead cells commonly called bark which mainly consist of cork cambium - The Phellogen. Main function of bark is to provide mechanical strength and rigidity to tree trunk. It also serves to protect tree from injury or any infection.

On other hand, stem of young plants is made of soft parenchymatous living cells which mainly help in conduction.
