How are Union Territories formed?
Solution,
In early time the territories were administered by the Centre before the country's independence. Certain areas were designated as scheduled districts in 1874. These were later known as Chief Commissioners provinces, and they were essentially administered by a Chief Commissioner who reported directly to the Governor-General or Viceroy of India. The concept of Union Territory was first introduced in the States Reorganisation Act, 1956. The 14th Constitutional amendment act, 1962, to enable Parliament to create legislatures for the UTs.Territories that are too small to be independent or are too different (economically, culturally and geographically) to be merged with the surrounding states or are financially weak or are politically unstable. The constitutional power to create new states and union territories in India is solely reserved to the Parliament of India. Parliament can do so by announcing new states/union territories, separating territory from an existing state or merging two or more states/union territories or parts of them.
