How are women viewed in public spaces

Dear Student,

Women in our country is  a victim of gendered perception of Indian society:

1. Gender is a socially constructed term that sought to create artificial division in the society between men and women. It gets reflected in the sexual division of work and in the society’s mind set.
2. Gender prejudice is the result of such a mind set in which a society develops preconceived idea about women that is not based on knowledge, reason or thought.
3. Indian
society has always fixed women in a particular realm regarding private sphere for them.
4.This attitude has developed over a period of time due to the general mind set of the parents and society. Girls are told to be caring, be helping hand to their mothers, look after the house whereas this kind of work is generally not accepted from boys.
5. Such prejudiced attitude also gets reflected at the work place, women are paid less than men.
6. Women are still subjected to unequal treatment be it at the work place , paid less
7. They are also the victims of exploitation by the employer and are looked down upon
 8. Further , women's participation in the political sphere is also not appreciated many who still hold prejudiced attitude towards women
9. To attain respect and equality is certainly continuous struggle for them
10.
We need to change perception of the society to end the discrimination that women are subjected to.
11. Women in public spaces are generally looked as objects by men and without respect.

12 Spreading education, creating greater awareness among women, and change in society;s attitude and perception will go a long way in improving condition of women.
