How can a mixture of petrol and water be separated?

Use a separating funnel since the petrol floats above the water.
Just let the mixture stand. Petrol and water are not soluble, so they will
eventually separate. Since the petrol is lighter than the water, it will form
a layer on top, and may be drawn off.
Petrol will form at the top of water as it is not as heavy.
Apart from this I do not know what industrial methods one can use.

it can be done by decantation

We can separate by sedimentation and decantation. As density of water is more than that of petrol petrol will float on water then by decantation method we can separate it. Thank you

We will put the fier in water then petrol will burn and water will left

it can be poured by filternation not decantation

Petrol being lighter than water will float on the water. Two distinct layers are formed. The mixture is poured in a separating funnel and allowed to settle for sometime and again oil and water will form a separate layer. The stopper is turned on and water is allowed to flow into a beaker placed below it. The flow is stopped as the layer of oil reaches the stopper. Thus, water is collected in the beaker and oil remains in the separating funnel.

The mixture of petrol and water can be seprated by leaving the mixture for few minutes. After that we will observe that the petrol which was mixed will be floating on the water. This will happen because the water is dense than the petrol thus settling down. Now, carefully use a small spoon to collect the pure petrol floating on the water till there is no petrol left behind. Note: this process will take place with all oils and rarer substances than water.

Immiscible liquids. Immiscible means that the liquids don't dissolve in each other ? oil and water are an example. It is possible to shake up the liquids and get them to mix but they soon separate. Separating immiscible liquids is done simply using a separating funnel.

We can separate the mixture of petrol and water using the following by:
1)Sedimentation and Decantation
2)Filtraion
3)Separating Funnle

The mixture of petrol and water using the method of filtration...after sometime when the mixture is kept in separating funnel...the heavier liquid (water)will settle down and the lighter liquid(petrol) will float above....then we open the stopper of the separating funnel until all of the heavier liquid(water) is gone into one container...then put the lighter liquid (petrol)in another container.

As petrol is lighter,It floats on the water.
It can be removed by removing the petrol along with the impurity, without disturbing the settled water. this is called decantation.
Hope my answer clears your doubt.
