How can we know which side is south in a bar magnet ??

Dear student.
We will suspend the given magnet freely with a thread and make to come to rest. It is fixed that all magnets rest in north south direction only.So after some time the end of the given magnet which points towards the north direction will be the north pole and the other end will be south pole ponting towards south.

Suspend the bar magnet and let it come to rest. It always comes to rest in the north-south direction. The end of the magnet which points towards the north direction is the north pole and the end which points towards the south direction is the south pole of the magnet.
