How can we say a leaf falling from a tree is rectilinear motion when we know it does not fall down in a straight line but follows a random path?

Since gravity causes objects to accelerate downward, whereas air resistance acts in the direction opposite to the motion and reduces acceleration. Thus, leaf will not fall straight, it would drift back and forth until it reaches ground.

we say it because leaf falling from a tree comes down rotating but it comes straight down to earth but does not fly somwhere in the air . thus it is rectilinear motion

may be you have heard something wrong it must be only a non-periodic motion
