how can you relate the symbol of fire and ice to the practical reality of modern times?

Dear Student,
In the poem, the narrator describes his prediction about the fate of the world through his own experience. Fire being symbolised as desires and passion of people, can bring the end of the world. Desires and passions are limitless. These days, we can look around and find many such examples where people become extremely selfish and insensitive to others in order to fulfil their desires. Hatred of people is symbolised as ice in the poem. Ego and anger lead people to hate each other. Thus, fire and ice describe either sides of the ways leading to destruction of the humanity and the world.
