How can you say that the ghost had some human characteristics in his behaviour?

The ghost was in fact a human at one point of time so he did have human characteristics in his behaviour. He enjoyed frightening people, a trait that most humans have, especially children. He made satirical remarks at the Otis's pictures and even displayed fear when constantly bullied by the Otis twins. Most importantly, he shows regret for what he has done. He admits to Virginia that he is tired and that he does not want to haunt the house. He wanted to move on peacefully into the afterlife and wanted to go to sleep. Perhaps the most human behaviour is that he pleads to Virginia, asking her to weep him and asking her to pray for mercy towards him.
